Professional Home Organising & Decluttering in Leicester
Frequently Asked Questions
If you’re considering working with a professional home organiser, you may have questions about how the process works, what to expect and whether Sort It Home Organising is right for you.
Here are some of the questions I’m asked most often.
If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, you’re welcome to get in touch. I’m always happy to have a chat about your home, your situation and how I may be able to help.
What exactly does a professional organiser do?
A professional organiser helps you create practical, organised spaces that work better for your everyday life.
At Sort It Home Organising, I work alongside you to declutter, organise and create simple systems for your home. This might involve one room, a wardrobe, a kitchen, paperwork, several areas of your home or a whole home project.
I don’t simply tidy things away. We look at what you have, what you use and what isn’t working, then create practical homes and organising systems that make it easier to find what you need and maintain your space.
You remain in control of what happens to your belongings throughout the process, I’ll provide practical guidance and support, but I’ll never pressure you to throw something away.
My approach is calm, practical and completely judgement-free.
Do I need to clean before you arrive?
No - absolutely not.
You don’t need to tidy, clean or organise everything before I arrive. In fact, if you could already manage everything yourself, you probably wouldn’t need my help.
The purpose of our session is to work together on the areas of your home that are causing you the most difficulty.
I’ll help you sort, declutter and organise your belongings while we create practical systems that work for you and your everyday life.
So please don’t feel embarrassed about the state of your home. There is no judgement at Sort It Home Organising.
Just let me know what you’d like help with, and we’ll take it from there.
How does the process work?
Getting started is simple. I’ll guide you through each stage so you always know what to expect.
1. Book your FREE 15 Minute Chat
We’ll have a relaxed conversation about your home, what you’re struggling with and what you’d like to achieve. There is no obligation and no pressure.
2. We discuss your needs
I’ll ask a few questions about the space you’d like help with, what isn’t working and the type of support you’re looking for.
3. We create a plan
Once I understand what you need, we can discuss the best approach for your project, including the areas you’d like to tackle and the time required.
4. We organise together
During your organising session, I’ll work alongside you to declutter, sort and organise your belongings, creating practical systems that suit your home and your lifestyle.
5. You enjoy a more organised home
The aim is to leave you. With a space that feels calmer, more functional and easier to maintain with simple systems that work for your everyday life.
Do I need to be at home during the organising sessions?
For most organising sessions, yes - I’ll normally work alongside you so that you remain involved in decisions about your belongings.
You don’t need to do everything yourself. I’ll provide practical support, guidance and hands on organising while you decide what you would like to keep, donate, recycle or remove.
Being involved also means we can create organising systems that genuinely suit your routines, your preferences and the way you use your home.
In some circumstances, it may be possible to discuss an alternative arrangement, depending on the project and the type of support you need. We can talk through this during your FREE 15 Minute Chat.
How long will a project take?
Every home and every project is different, so there isn’t a set amount of time that applies to everyone.
The time needed will depend on the size of the space, how much needs to be sorted and decluttered, how quickly decisions can be made and the level of support you need.
* Small projects: around 2-5 hours
* Medium projects: around 5-8 hours
* Larger projects: May require multiple sessions or several days.
Some people prefer to focus on one area at a time, while others want to tackle several areas of their home.
During your FREE 15 Minute Chat, we can discuss what you’d like to achieve and I can give you a better idea of the time and support your project may require.
There is no need to rush the process or tackle everything at once. We can work at a pace that feels comfortable and manageable for you.
Do I need to buy storage bins and baskets beforehand?
No- please don’t feel you need to buy anything before we start.
I’ll work with the storage you already have wherever possible and we’ll look at what could work best for your space before I recommending any additional products.
Buying storage before decluttering can sometimes mean buying things you don’t actually need or that aren’t the right size for your space.
If additional storage would genuinely improve the organisation of an area, I can recommend practical options that suit your needs, your space and your budget.
There is no expectation to spend money on new storage. The aim is to make the best use of what you already have wherever possible.
What happens to the items I decide to get rid of?
You remain in control of what happens to your belongings.
As we declutter, I’ll help you sort items into practical categories such as keep, donate, recycle or remove.
I don’t make decisions about your belongings for you, and there is never any pressure to get rid of something you’re not ready to part with.
Sort It Home Organising does not currently provide a disposal or removal service, so unwanted items will normally be left with you to arrange their next step.
If appropriate, I can help you identify practical options for donating or recycling unwanted items.
The important thing is that you decide what stays and what goes.
Is my information confidential?
Yes. I understand that inviting someone into your home and talking about your personal circumstances can feel very private.
I treat the information you share with me, including details about your home, belongings and personal circumstances, with respect and discretion.
I will only use your information where necessary to provide and manage the service you have requested, and I will not share your personal information with others unless there is a legitimate reason to do so or you have given permission.
I take your privacy seriously and aim to make every interaction with Sort It Home Organising feel safe, respectful and judgement-free.
What is your cancellation policy?
I understand that sometimes plans change or unexpected things happen.
If you need to cancel or rearrange an organising session, I ask that you give at least 48 hours’ notice wherever possible.
This gives me the opportunity to offer the appointment to another customer.
If less than 48 hours’ notice is given, or an appointment is missed without notice, a cancellation fee may apply depending on the circumstances and the terms agreed when your booking was made.
If something unexpected happens, please get in touch as soon as possible. I’ll always try to be reasonable and consider the circumstances.
Do you offer home organising and decluttering in Leicester?
Yes. Sort It Home Organising provides professional home organising and decluttering support across Leicester and Leicestershire.

Do you help with decluttering if I feel overwhelmed?
Àbsolutely. You don’t need to know where to start before getting in touch.
If clutter has become overwhelming, we can break the process down into smaller, manageable areas and work through them together at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
My approach is calm, supportive and completely judgement-free. The aim isn’t to clear everything as quickly as possible, it’s to help you make progress without feeling overwhelmed.
Can you help with moving home or downsizing?
Yes. I provide moving home organising and downsizing support to help make the process more manageable.
This can include sorting and decluttering before a move, deciding what to take with you, preparing belongings for packing and organising your new home once you’ve moved.
If you’re downsizing, I can also help you work through belongings and decide what will realistically fit into your new space, while keeping you in control of every decision.
Do you offer neurodiversity friendly organising?
Yes. I offer neurodiversity friendly home organising with a calm and non judgmental approach.
Traditional organising systems don’t work for everyone, so I’ll work with you to create practical systems that suit your routines, habits and the way you naturally use your home.
The focus is on making everyday life easier, reducing overwhelm and creating systems that are realistic for you to maintain.
Do you offer virtual organising support?
Yes. As well as in person organising sessions, I offer virtual coaching and consultation for customers who would prefer support remotely.
Virtual sessions can be useful if you want guidance while organising your own home, need help deciding where to start or would like support creating practical organising systems.
We’ll discuss what you’re hoping to achieve and work out whether virtual support is the right option for you.
